Matthew Magnone, Sr., 91, of Weirton passed away Monday February 6, 2017, at Acuity Specialty Care, Weirton. Born in Holliday's Cove, WV, on September 10, 1925, Matthew was the son of the late Frank and Rose Gillette Magnone (Trione). He was also preceded in death by his step father, Anthony Trione; his wife, Dolores J. Tairiol Magnone on October 4, 2000; and his two sisters, Wanda Bengier and Theresa Snape. Matthew, a real estate developer and insurance and travel executive was owner of the former J.S. Tairiol Company in Weirton which is still in operation today as Assure America. He was also the president of Tairiol Enterprises, where he remained active for over 60 years. Mr. Magnone fought in World War II as a rifleman and flame thrower in the United States Marine Corps Infantry battalion. He was cited for his meritorious conduct, courage, loyalty and devotion to duty serving as an example to his comrades in the performance of his duties during the operations against the enemy at SAIPAN, TINTAN, IHEYA and OKINAWA from May of 1944 to September of 1945. After the war, Matthew returned to Weirton and eventually met his wife on a blind date and the couple was married in 1955, and soon after started their family. He will always be remembered as a humble kind hearted man who always found the good in other people. A devoted catholic, he quietly helped people along their way. Mr. Magnone was a member of Saint Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, Holy Name Society, and the Knights of Columbus 3734. He will be missed by his loving family which include his two sons, Joseph M. Magnone (Cynthia) and Matthew A. Magnone (Lori) and his daughter, Veronica Smitsky (Michael) all of Weirton, WV; his five grandchildren, Kristen Campbell (Jason), Alicia Smitsky, Amanda Amborn (Sean), Sarah and Landon Magnone; his two great grandchildren, Peyton Campbell and Madeline Cullinan. Visitation will be 2-4 & 6-8 PM Wednesday at the Greco Hertnick Funeral Home 3219 Main Street Weirton. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 AM Thursday, at Saint Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, Weirton, WV Rev. Fr. Dennis Schuelkens, Jr. will preside. Entombment will follow at Saint Paul's Mausoleum with military honors conducted by the United States Marine Corp, and the American Legion Post 10 Honor Guard.   1. How blessed our family was to have Delores and Matt as neighbors. I will fondly remember Matt for being soft spoken, kind and having a warm smile.
