michael butto
Michael R. Butto, 83, of Weirton died Tuesday January 16, 2007, at the Weirton Medical Center. Michael was born on October 14, 1923, in Steubenville, OH, the son of the late Antonio and Margharita Franchiotto Butto. He was also preceded in death by his four brothers, Bruno, William, Romeo and Patsy and a sister, Julia Butto. Michael retired from the Tin Mill of Weirton Steel, where he was a union steward. He was also an officer in the Independent Steelworkers Union and a former board member of the Tin Mill Employees Federal Credit Union. Michael served his country in the United States Army during World War II. Michael was a member of the Saint Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, Weirton Steel 25-Year Club, American Legion Post 10 and the Knights of Columbus 3734. He is survived by his wife Rose M. (Canella) Butto, whom he marrired on July 27, 1946; a son Michael Butto of Weirton WV; two daughters, Betty Jo and George Whelan of New Cumberland, WV, Debbie and David Blumer of Sarasota, FL; seven grandchildren, Matthew Blumer, Maria and Stacy Butto, Kevin, Sean, and George Whelan, Jennifer Huber; Six great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends Thursday 2-4 & 6-8PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton. Knights of Columbus will recite the rosary 6PM Thursday in the funeral home. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated 10:30AM Friday at St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, Weirton. Reverend Father Dean Borgmeyer will officiate. Interment will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Steubenville, OH, with military services conducted by the Weirton Honor Guard.
