Mitchell H. Mankosa, 83, of Weirton, WV, a great father and husband, passed away Sunday May 10, 2009, at the Weirton Medical Center. Mitchell was born on May 29, 1925, in Warwood, WV. After graduating from High School, Mitchell served his country during World War II in the United States Navy. He attended Berea College in Berea Kentucky. On August 10, 1946, Mitchell married the love of his life, his high school sweetheart, Pauline Sobol. Pauline and Mitchell moved to Weirton where they started a family. Mitchell worked as an electrician for Weirton Steel before retiring in 1988, with 38 years of service. The couple enjoyed worldwide traveling, and also traveling to all 50 states. When he was not traveling, Mitchell enjoyed spending time in his garden. Mitchell was a member of the Saint Paul Roman Catholic Church, Weirton Steel 25 Year Club and a former member of the Weirton Steel Golf League. Mitchell was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Anna Materek Mankosa and his two brothers, Emil and William Mankosa. He is survived by his wife, Pauline Sobol Mankosa of Weirton, WV; his two sons, Mitchell Mankosa and his wife Sherry of St Louis MO, Michael Mankosa and his wife Cathy of Erie, PA; two sisters, Sabina Mikasen of Benwood, WV and Virginia Skybrock of Englewood, FL; five grandchildren, Michael, Nicholas, Kristen, Marcey and Sarah Mankosa. Visitation will be 2-4 & 6-8 PM Wednesday at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV, where funeral services will be held 10 AM Thursday. Reverend Father Ronald Gettsinger will officiate. Interment will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling, WV. Memorial contributions may be made to the Saint Paul Grade School, 140 Walnut Street, Weirton, WV 26062.
