nancy bernabei
Nancy Lee Bernabei of Weirton, a loving, generous, and selfless “Mammal,” passed away on Thursday, October 28, 2021. She was 75 years old. Nancy was born in Weirton, WV, on July 4, 1946 the first of two daughters born to Clifford and Vivian Hickman Gordon. At a young age, Nancy’s family moved to Middlebourne, WV, where Nancy attended elementary school and graduated from Tyler High School. During her high school years, while visiting Weirton, she met John Bernabei.. It was a match made in Heaven. Soulmates, Nancy and John were married on October 17, 1964. John, an Air Force veteran, worked for Weirton Steel, and Nancy was a talented seamstress. In their 44 years of marriage, they were blessed with four children and seven grandchildren. Sadly, John passed away on November 7, 2004. Nancy worked many years for Ohio Valley Industrial Services. She was an avid seamstress performing services for family, friends and many local residents. But, most importantly, she was always there for her family. Her home was always welcoming to her family and her friends. The minute you walked in, you felt at home. She loved to cook and bake. Mammal’s cookies and her famous meatballs and sauce were enjoyed by all her kids, grand-kids, and neighborhood children. Nancy enjoyed any activities that involved her family. Her heart was complete when they all were gathered at her home or when she was attending one of their sporting activities. Mammal never missed a game or an event. She was a loyal and proud fan of the Boston College Eagles Women’s Basketball team. Most of all, Mammal will be remembered for her sharp mind, who always knew the answer to your question, her no-nonsense but generous, and protective love she had for her husband, children, and grandchildren. In addition to her parents and her husband, Nancy was preceded in death by her grandson, SPC. Anthony John Bernabei, on August 7, 2017. Mammal had a life well lived. Her catholic faith gave her no fear of death as she is reunited with her husband and grandson. She will be remembered with love and admiration by her children, J.J. and Sue Bernabei, Paula and Ken Cordray, Joanna and Joe McNamee, Patti Bernabei Robinson, and Dave Robinson Jr; her grandchildren, Kassi and Nikki Robinson, Audra and Abigail Bernabei, and Luke and Caden McNamee; her sister, Frances Crawford, her nephew Doug Crawford, and his family. Lastly, her loving dog, Precious. Visitation will be Monday 11:00 AM until 1:30 PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street Weirton, WV.
