Nick (Nikola) Visnic

Nick “Nikola” Visnic, 84, of Weirton, passed away Friday, July 10, 2009 at his residence. Born November 29, 1924 in Martins Ferry, OH, he was a son of the late Nikola and Clara Rebic Visnic. He was also preceded in death by his brothers Mele and George Visnic. Mr. Visnic worked for 30 years with the Teamsters Union, consisting of careers with the J. E. Miller Transfer Company, Shippingport, PA Power Plant, Local 341 (shop steward) and as a business agent for Local 697 in Wheeling, WV. He was a member of the Holy Resurrection Serbian Eastern Orthodox Church in Steubenville, the Eagles Lodge in Wheeling, was an avid golfer and artist who enjoyed drawing and painting. He served in the United States Army during World War II, where he was in the 325 Anti-Artillery Searchlight Battalion serving as a Radar Crewman in the South Pacific, Okinawa. Nick is survived by his wife Sally Zinaich Visnic of Weirton; brother Sam Visnic and his wife Edna of Stillwater, OK; sister Mary Farrier and her husband Steve of Kennesaw, GA and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received Sunday from 1-3 and 6-8 at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, where a Pomen service will be conducted at 7:30PM. Additional visitation will be held Monday from 12:00 noon until the 1:00PM Funeral Mass at the Holy Resurrection Serbian Eastern Orthodox Church. The Very Reverend Father Rade Merick will officiate. Interment will be in the Serbian Cemetery, Weirton where Military services will be conducted by the American Legion Firing Squad.
