Pastor R. Curtis Watkins, 72, of Toronto, OH, passed away Thursday, November 4, 2010 at his home. Born August 22, 1938 in Knoxville, OH, he was a son of the late Bruce and Dorothy Paisley Watkins. He was also preceded in death by his wife Martha Ann Craft Watkins, sons Matthew and Daniel Watkins and sister Janice Wood. After graduating high school, he attended Marietta College and earned a Surgical Technician degree, working for many years at the Marietta Hospital. With 32 years of service, Curtis retired from Ohio Edison in Toronto. He then entered the ministry serving as Pastor for the Oakland Presbyterian Church. In addition to his church duties, he volunteered his time working with Sister Patrick at Trinity Medical Center. Pastor Watkins is survived by his sons Nathan Watkins and his wife Deborah of Toronto, OH and Christian Watkins and his wife Nancy of New Cumberland, WV; brother Gerald "Butch" Watkins of Little Hocking, OH; sisters Barbara Diamos of Bluff City, TN and Sandra Miller of Little Hocking, OH and grandchildren Zachary, Erin, Michael, Ava, Gabriella and Alexandra Watkins. Friends will be received Saturday from 5-8 and Sunday 2-4 and 6-8PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton. Additional visitation will be held Monday from 10 until the 11am funeral services at the Oakland Presbyterian Church. Pastor Donna Todd will officiate. Interment will be in Island Creek Cemetery, Knoxville, OH Memorial contributions may be made to Oakland Presbyterian Church.

  7. To the Watkins Family, I was so sorry to read in the paper about Curt. He was one of the most gentle, kind, caring, and gracious persons I had the privilege to meet in Upper Ohio Valley Presbytery. His love for Christ was so apparent and so was his wonderful smile! God bless you as you trust in the Lord’s promises of the resurrection to eternal life.

  8. Dear Family; I was saddened to learn of Mr. Watkins death. I work at T-Town Dry Cleaner’s in Toronto and I did his shirts. When he would come in, we would have very indepth conversations about many things and at least once we were sure we had the answer to world peace, jokenly of course. I will cherish a book he gave me”Never Again” by John Ashcroft. He was a true Christian Gentlemen and I will miss him, my prayers will be for strength for all of you. Sincerely Carol Coma

  9. Dear Watkins Family, It doesn’t seem possible that we won’t see Curt’s wonderful smile or hear more of his words of inspiration & love for all of us. We know he was ready to go home to be with his Lord & his Martha, but there are many of us who weren’t ready to let him go. Our prayers are for his family & church family who will miss him immensely.

  14. char band i were shocked to hear the news and want to extend our deepest sympathy to nathan chrisytian and the family for the loss of a great great man. He was my mentor and helped me get to the point in my music career that I am today. Martha and Curt always treated me like family and thats how I considered the Watkins family as an extension of my own. I will miss him deeply. No matter how our cantatas were going I will always see Curt’s smiling face saying “Don’t worry Jim, it will all work out” I’m sure he is giving Martha a hug as we speak

  16. It is with a Very Heavy Heart that I wish all of the best to Curt’s family & friends. He was an ‘Outstanding’ man of God. I first met Curt when I dated (& later married) his older Sister Janice, at their Mothers home in Richmond Ohio. He was always a very Kind & Caring man, always ready to assist everyone he could. In later years his love of God was a thing to marvel at. Curt, I shall always cherish the scant times we spent together. I’m sure your Star will shine brightly, there beside GOD & your beloved Martha!
