patrick gurrera
Patrick Samuel Gurrera of Weirton passed away at the Weirton Medical Center on Saturday, December 11, 2021. He was 88 years old. He was born in Weirton on June 5, 1933, the son of the late Patsy and Nora Endry Gurrera. Patrick was a 1950 graduate of New Cumberland High School and retired employee from National and Weirton Steel Companies with thirty-six years of service in the sheet metal shop. He was a very active member of Saint Paul’s Roman Catholic Church, volunteering for many outreach aspects the church had offered. In addition, he served his country with pride as a member of the United States Navy during the Korean War. A Weirton Steel 25 year club member, he also held memberships in the Weirton Knights of Columbus and The VFW Post 2716. Patrick was highly devoted to his Catholic Faith. His daughter Terri has often said, “dad would be the first one to volunteer!” The admiration he had for his family and the principles he taught were ever-present through the love he gave them. When Patrick wasn’t helping out others, he would pass his time tinkering with projects, working on puzzles and cheering on his Steelers. He enjoyed playing with his grandchildren whenever he could. In addition to his parents, Patrick was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Michael Gurrera. He will be fondly remembered with love by his sons Michael (Felicia) Gurrera of Columbia, SC., Patrick (Stacy) Gurrera of Wintersville, daughters Terri (Eric) Nejus of Weirton, Diane (Robert) Ferris of Imperial, PA., and Yvonne Dupain of Washington, PA., his seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren, sister Theresa McElwain of Dallas, TX. And, of course, his little fur-buddy, BJ. On Friday, December 17, Visitation will be at Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home 3219 Main Street Weirton from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Saturday at Saint Paul’s Roman Catholic Church, Weirton. Fr Babu Joseph Elamturuthil will preside. Military Honors will be conducted by the United States Navy and the American Legion Post 10. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Saint Paul’s Roman Catholic Church, 140 Walnut Street Weirton, WV 26062. Share tributes and memories at www.grecohertnick.com.
