paul zelenka iii
Paul Edward Zelenka of Youngstown, OH, passed away at the Salem Regional Medical Center following a brief illness on December 18, 2021. He was 73 years old. He was born in Washington, PA., on December 30, 1947, the son of the late Paul E. and Barbara Fedor Zelenka II. Paul was a 1966 graduate of Washington High School and obtained a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education from Chardon University. He spent many years working for Rubber Rolls Incorporated, eventually retiring as their Production Manager, giving him more time to cheer on his favorite baseball team, the New York Yankees. Paul enjoyed being outdoors. His love of golfing, camping, and fishing was an integral part of him. In addition, his camping and fishing trips are forever in the minds of his family as they spent countless days in Wildwood, New Jersey. Although his daily routines were well known, Paul always had time for his family. His loving and caring ways went beyond his household; when his friends needed him, he would never let them down. His daughters speak of the special relationship with his grandchildren; the five of them were very important to him. Paul would sometimes get in trouble for sneaking Coca-Cola and candy bars to them when his daughters instructed him not to do so, a secret between him and the kids. In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Athena Frangos. Remembering Paul fondly with love and admiration is his wife of forty years, Stamatia Frangos Zelenka, whom he married on November 21, 1981. His daughters, Vanessa (Justin) Fritz of Mineral Ridge, OH., Athena (Adam) Riggs of Morning View, KY., grandchildren Camden, Odie, and Hudson Paul Fritz, Wesley Edward, and Virginia Riggs, and the two dogs he probably loved most of all, Molly and Mia. Friends will be received on Monday, December 27, from 11:00 AM to the time of the noon service at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV. 26062. Fr. Anthony G. Thurston will officiate. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to JDRF Western & Central PA. Checks can be made to ‘JDRF’ and mailed to 501 Martindale St, Suite 670, Pittsburgh, PA 15212. Please state, “in memory of Paul Zelenka.” Interment will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. The Zelenka Family has requested masks be worn during his visitation and service. 4. To Sam and family – Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time. Though I only knew Paul for a brief time, it seemed like we knew one another for our entire life. He had an easy way about him and enjoyed talking about his love of family, golf and the New York Yankees. At times I thought he was a New Yorker because of his love for the Bronx Bombers. Paul also loved his golf and we spent every Wednesday playing. I will miss those times and fun we had on the course. Thanks for allowing me to spend those times with you. Love Dennis and Eileen Newton
