Paul Anthony Gilkey, 63, of Weirton, passed away Monday, May 7, 2012 in the Weirton Medical Center. Born April 29, 1949 in Steubenville, OH, he was the son of the late Clinton and Veronica Durante Gilkey. He was also preceded in death by his brothers-in-law Nick Filippelli and Jim Morton. For the last 38 years, Paul was a mechanic at the Koppers plant in Follansbee, WV where he recently served as trustee for the union. He was a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church and was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pirates, WVU and Brooke High School football. He enjoyed spending the day fishing and vacationing with his family at the beach. But most of all, he wanted to spend time with the joy of his life, his grandson Ethan. Mr. Gilkey is survived by his wife Rosemary Zorbino Gilkey whom he married almost 40 years ago on July 22, 1972; daughters Carrie V. Gilkey of Weirton and Deanna L. Schmuck and her husband Eric of Monroeville, PA; grandson Ethan Schmuck; brother Michael Gilkey and his wife Kathy of Wintersville, OH; sisters Linda Wildman and her husband Bill of Pine Grove, WV and Ann Marlene Cash of Wintersville and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Wednesday 2-4 and 6-8PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated 10AM Thursday at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church with Reverend Father Larry Dorsch officiating. Interment will be in St. Paul Cemetery, Weirton. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 140 Walnut Street, Weirton, WV 26062.

  1. Aunt Rose and girls, we are so very sorry for your loss. Uncle Paul was a truly caring man with a heart of gold. He was a proud man who loved his family and friends unconditionally. I remember sitting at the kitchen table having coffee and talking. He will be missed terribly from all of his extended family.   15. Dear Deanna and Family, I’m so sorry about your dad’s passing. I remember when he was hospitalized at St. Francis Hospital in Pittsburgh for so long, and then miraculously recovered.
