Paul Leroy Mercer, 76, of Colliers, WV, died Saturday, January 28, 2012, at the Valley Hospice Care Unit North, Steubenville, OH. Born November 21, 1935 in Middlebourne, WV, he was a son of the late Roy and Lydia Lancaster Mercer. Paul was also preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Mercer Roberts. Paul retired from Weirton Steel after 36 years of service as a Scale Repairman. He was a member of the Colliers Way Church of Christ and the WSX 25 Year Club. Paul was a very talented woodworker who enjoyed working with his hands, especially making furniture. He also enjoyed spending time in his garden. Surviving is his wife of 54 years, Patty Cooper Mercer; a daughter, Pamela K. Crain (James) of Colliers, WV; brother, Wayne Mercer (Violet) of Middlebourne, WV; sister, Irene Reitter (Frank) of Wellsburg, WV; grandchildren, Courtney Crain and Amber Kush (Pat); and great grandchildren, Keara, Jaedyn, and Trey Kush. Visitation will be Monday 2-4 and 6-8 PM, at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, where services will be held Tuesday at 11 AM. Thomas C. Derby will officiate. Interment will follow in St. John Cemetery, Colliers, WV. Following the committal service, family and friends are invited to a luncheon at the Colliers Way Church of Christ. The Mercer family would like to extend their gratitude to the Valley Hospice of Steubenville, OH for their compassion and loving care during Paul's final days. Contributions in memory of Paul can be made to Valley Hospice, 10686 State Route 150, Rayland, OH 43943.

  2. I am sorry for your loss. Paul was a good man, he was always good to me growing up and was a very kind helpful neighbor to my grandparents and uncles. I remember him and my grandfather sharing rides to the mill together when I was a kid.

  10. Pat,Pam,Jim,Courtney. Paul has always been in every chapter of our life’s book. When I last saw him, he me a great service. That was his way. Those who serve here on Earth is served in Heaven. so many people knew him and not one cross word against him. The value of a Man is not so much as how many others he loved but how many loved him. Many loved and respected Paul. I will miss him deeply.
