Ramona “Boots” Hines of New Cumberland passed away on Sunday, December 13, 2020, at Weirton Medical Center from complications related to the COVID-19 Virus. She was born on January11, 1930, in New Cumberland, a daughter of the late Hugh and Josephine Tate. She was 90 years old. “Boots” lived her entire life in New Cumberland and was a graduate of New Cumberland High School. She was later employed in the shipping department of the Tin Mill at Weirton Steel. Famous for her coconut cream pies and her pineapple upside-down cakes, she loved to cook and bake. Her home in Eden Valley was a place where the neighbors could stop by at any time and catch up on the latest gossip. Mrs. Hines is survived by her three sons, George (Milli) Hines, Jerry (Anita) Hines, and Tim (Jolene) Hines, all of New Cumberland. She will be deeply missed by her grandchildren, George(Jelayne) Hines of Canfield, Ohio; Phil Hines of Chester; Makenzie (Kyle) Dunbar, of Chester; Chad(Beth) Hines of Weirton; and Kasey Hines of New Cumberland. Her pride and joy were her great-grandchildren, Tyler Cole and Sophie Hines of Canfield, and Kendall and Kaden Dunbar of Chester. She is also survived by several special nieces and nephews. Her whole life revolved around her family. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, George A. Tate and Joseph “Tom” Tate of New Cumberland, and a sister, Mary “Toots” Porco of Weirton. Because of the pandemic, a private viewing for immediate family only will be held at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home in Weirton, followed by a private burial in New Cumberland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Teramana Cancer Center, 3204 Johnson Road, Steubenville, Ohio 43952.
