Raymond Caparros, 76, of Weirton, passed away Friday, September 30, 2005 at the Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. Born November 11, 1928 in Canton, Ohio, he was the son of the late Ramon and Rosa Ampudia Caparros. Raymond was also preceded in death by his wife Dora Arlene Daniels Caparros on October 25, 1997. With 45 years of service, Raymond retired from Weirton Steel where he was a buggy driver in the Tin Mill. He was an independent sign painter, calligrapher and artist, as well as an avid jazz fan, boater and ballroom dancer. He was a member of the Memorial Baptist Church, Weirton Elks Lodge 1801, Woodcarvers Association, Pittsburgh Jazz Society, Weirton Christian Center Board of Directors, Tri State Wheelers, and the Funseekers Club. He served as Past President of the WSX 25-Year Club and WV American Baptist Men.Ray also served as a missionary in Central America through the Baptist Church. He was a former member of the Lions Club and was a former scout leader. He served in the US Coast Guard during the Korean Conflict. Raymond’s survivors include his son Raymond “Buck” Caparros and his wife Kelly of Weirton; daughter Ramaine Turrentine and her husband Mike of Steubenville; sisters Dolly Caparros of Weirton, Juanita Vagnozzi of Fairfax, VA and Rose Peters and her husband Dick of Topsail, NC; 2 grandchildren Sam and Leah and his companion Jacqueline Woods of Weirton. The family will receive friends Monday 2-4 and 7-9PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton. Funeral services and burial will be held at the convenience of the family. I got to work with your Dad in the Tin Mill before he retired. He was always a class act.
