Richard Albert “ Skip” Kinney, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 23, 2021. He was 77. Richard was born in Pittsburgh, PA on July 2, 1943, the youngest of two children born to Alfred and Ethel Jane Schemp Kinney. Skip graduated from Weir High School in 1961 and furthered his education at the College of Steubenville. After graduating college, Skip began a career with Weirton Steel that spanned 41 years. He retired in 2005 as the manager of accounts payable. Skip was married to Oneita Hinerman and they were blessed with three sons, Rick, Craig, and Brad. When the boys were young, Skip was very active with the Termite Basketball and baseball organizations, where he served as president of both organizations. Oneita passed away on May 22, 1989, from breast cancer. His entire life, Skip was family-oriented. Nothing was more important than time with his family and friends. He and his family enjoyed riding motorcycles, boating, hiking, running, or just about any activity outdoors. Every year they would enjoy their family vacations to Hilton Head, SC. When he met Carol Delong he enjoyed helping out with the trail committee at Racoon State Park, where they would ride their horses. In addition to his parents and his first wife, Oneita, Skip was preceded in death by his infant son, Craig. Skip will be remembered with love and adoration by his wife, of 30 years, Carol Delong Kinney; his two sons, Rick and Karen Kinney of Bel Air, MD, and Brad Kinney of Weirton; his sister, Sandy Kestling and his two grandchildren, Christie and Ryan Kinney. Friends and family will be received from 11:00 AM until the time of funeral services at 2:00 PM Friday at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street Weirton, WV. Karen Jedrzejewski, a close family friend will preside. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.   7. Skip was the best brother anyone could ever wish to have and I will miss him so very much. We have alot of memories of growing up, working with Termites, and vacationing with our families. He was a wonderful husband to Carol, and father to Rick and Brad, and daughter in law Karen and Brad’s girlfriend Josie. And he dearly loved and was so proud of his grandchildren, Christie & Ryan and Christie’s fiancee Drew. They were a close family and enjoyed so many things together.   11. My fondest memory of Skip are the comments he made about David Kesling, my brother, at his funeral. Skip was the youngest one of my brother’s group of friends and he had to prove he could run with the big boys. They were all wild and crazy (but not bad) guys! Dave took Skip under his wing and they became friends forever! Skip had a sister named Sandy and about 6 months after Dave met her, they were married and stayed married for almost 58 yrs. Skip’s remarks were humorous, loving, sincere and so comforting. Joyce Gaylord

  19. Very sorry to hear of Skips passing. My prayers go out to all his family. I remember Skip as my Termite basketball coach of the Eagles. Along with Mr. Kesling, Skip helped coach our team to the league championship. I’ll always have fond memories of Skip.
