Richard Vernon Henderson, 87, of Weirton, passed away Wednesday, December 19, 2018, at his home with his loving family at his side. The son of the late Andrew Henderson and Catherine Herman Henderson Bendel, Richard was born on June 6, 1931, in Lisbon, Pa. A United States Navy veteran, Richard retired from the Weirton Steel Tin Mill Department where he worked cleaning lines for many years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and especially liked doing so with his grandson, Andrew. He took pride in his 1979 Ford Bronco, showing it at area car shows with his grandchildren, Maria and Andrew in tow. Richard nourished his faith as a parishioner of Sacred Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church. He will be remembered with love by his wife of 49 years, Mary Ann Teresh Henderson; his daughter, Mary B. and Padraic Sikora all of Weirton; his grandchildren, Andrew-John Shannon Sikora and Maria Ann Sikora and several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Richard requested a private visitation and service. Visitation was held Friday at Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV. Reverend Father Anthony G. Thurston presided over the Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday at Sacred Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church. Interment followed in St. Paul Cemetery, with military honors conducted by the American Legion Post 10 Honor Guard and the United States Navy.
