Rita M. Guida, of Weirton, passed away Friday, November 13, following a brief battle with cancer. She was 84. Rita was born on October 20, 1936, in Follansbee, WV, the first of three daughters born to Daniel and Elvira Dalesio Confalone. A 1954 graduate of Follansbee High School, Rita married James Joseph “JJ” Guida in 1957 at the age of 20 and raised her family in Weirton. Rita was a fantastic cook. Her family will especially cherish the memories of the weekly Sunday dinners and holiday gatherings she cooked and hosted for them over the years. Rita also worked for many years at her family’s business, Happy’s restaurant. Rita was a member of Saint Paul’s Roman Catholic Church in Weirton. In addition to her parents, Rita was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, JJ Guida, who passed away on May 10, 2015, and her sister Mary “Babe” Mazzone on June 5, 2020. Rita will be remembered with love by her children Dewey, Rosemary, Jamie, and Daniel (Laura) Guida; five grandchildren, Kelli (Wes) McIntyre, Lindsay “Schnippy” (fiancé Chris Stanley) Martinez, James J. “JJ” (Rachel), Danny, and Megan Guida; four great-grandchildren; sister Linda McDonald; and many nieces and nephews. A private Liturgy of the Word funeral service will be held. Entombment will follow in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Weirton.
