Robert E. “Bob” Roberts of Weirton, a loving husband, father, and grandfather passed away Sunday, October 11, 2020. He was 89. Robert was born on December 1, 1930, in Mannington, WV. He was one of four children born to Maurice and Lula Rae Cain Roberts. He grew up in Mannington, WV, and graduated in 1948 from Mannington High School, and was blessed to marry his high school sweetheart Roberta on April 9, 1950. After high school, Bob moved to Weirton to work in the Weirton Steel mill. He was drafted into the United States Army and served his country in the Korean War. When he returned from the war, Bob and Roberta raised their family in Weirton. In their marriage of 57 years, they were blessed with two children, three grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. With over 30 years of service, Robert retired from Weirton Steel Corporation where he worked as a crane operator. He and his wife nourished their faith at Oakland Presbyterian Church. Bob was a member of the Weirton Steel 25 Year Club and was very active with the All School Reunion of Mannington High School. He and his wife Bobby were known as very accomplished bowlers. Bob rolled multiple 300 games. Most of all Bob will be remembered for his gregarious personality. He never met a stranger and had a gift of remembering everything there was to know about you. Even though he liked to talk he was a great listener. He loved his family and they loved him. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his wife Roberta M. “Bobby” Kennedy Roberts on August 29, 2007, brother Raymond Roberts and sister Barbara Fluharty. He is survived by his daughter Donna (John “Skip”) Spadafora; son Edward (Debbie) Roberts; brother, William Roberts; grandchildren Misty (Travis) Stewart, John Spadafora III, and Justin Roberts and 5 great-grandchildren Katie Spadafora, Lucas Stewart, Reed Haynes, Makenzi, and Kylie Stewart. Friends will be received Wednesday 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV, where funeral services will be celebrated 11 am Thursday. Mrs. Isobel Bell will officiate. Interment will follow in Highland Hills Memorial Gardens, Follansbee, WV, with military services conducted.   2. I was very saddened to hear that my friend and neighbor had passed away. Bob was a good neighbor and friend. We enjoyed golfing together and reminiscing about things whenever we were both cutting grass. Bob really loved family, life and children…. I’ll remember how he lit up when I brought my grand kids down to visit him. Fran and I will also miss our chats when he would stop when riding by when we were walking in the area.
