Robert E. Kuhns

Robert E. Kuhns, 85, of Weirton, died Tuesday, May 25, 2004 at his home. Born February 12, 1919 in Cleveland, Ohio, he is the son of the late Frank L. and Mary Wilcoxen Kuhns. He is also preceded in death by his brother Paul J. Kuhns; sister, Harriet Melvin, and nephews David O. and Paul F. Kuhns. After 44 years of service, Robert retired from National Steel, Weirton Steel Division, where he worked as a Chemist and Senior Analyst, in the Quality Control Department. He served in the U. S. Air Force in the European Theatre during World War II. Many of Robert’s activities included WSX 25-Year Club, VFW 2716, Pleasant Valley Country Club and the Men’s Golf Association, AARP, Termite Baseball Association coach, Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop 34; 50 year member of New Cumberland Lodge #22 AF & AM, No. 14 R.A.M. and the Osiris Temple A.A.O.N.M.S. Wheeling. Robert also served as Past Commander and 50 year member of the Weirton Commandry No. 30 Knights Templar. Robert’s survivors include his wife Gladys S. (Smith) Kuhns, whom he married on July 27, 1941; a daughter, Roberta Lee Simmons of Weirton, WV; a son, Ronald James Kuhns and his wife Claire of Florida; 3 grandchildren, Eric D. Simmons and Scott L. and Johnna L. Kuhns. Friends will be received 2-4 and 7-9PM Thursday at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton where funeral services will be held at 11 AM Friday. Reverend Kevin L. Bowers will preside. Interment will follow at the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens where Masonic services will be conducted by the New Cumberland Lodge AF & AM Share tributes with his family at www.grecohertnick.com.
