Robert J. DiFonzo
August 1, 1939 ~ April 24, 2001
Robert J. DiFonzo, 61, of Weirton died Tuesday April 24, at Weirton Medical Center.
He was born on August 1, 1939 in Steubenville, OH, the son of Sue Tornifoglio DiFonzo of Steubenville, OH and the late John DiFonzo. A brother Patsy DiFonzo also preceded Robert in death.
Robert retired from Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel in maintenance as a supervisor over ¼ and 3/8 finishing lines with 38 years service. He was Past President of Full Gospel Weirton Chapter, and Sunday School Teacher for Word of Life Fellowship. For the past 22 years, he took responsibility with great joy, installing the annual nativity scene at the Millsop Community Center. His sons and family will continue to carry on with this tradition in his memory.
Surviving besides his mother are his wife Mary Ann Rocchio DiFonzo of Weirton, 2 sons: Robert J. and his wife Rhonda of Steubenville and John and his wife Jamey of Dover, OH, 3 daughters: Mrs. Todd (Michele) Beach of Tuscaloosa, AL, Mrs. Lonnie (Maria) Myers of Baltimore, MD, Mrs. Adam (Michalene) Mills of Weirton, one sister: Mrs. John (Roselyn) DiCocco of Steubenville, OH and 8 grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 7-9 PM and Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Greco Hertnick Funeral Home 3219 Main St., Weirton. Funeral service will be 11:00 AM on Friday at the funeral home. Entombment will be in Saint Paul Cemetery.
Military graveside services will be held by the American Legion Post 10, VFW #2716 Firing Squad, and the Tri State Marine Corps.
Memorial contributions may be made in Robert’s memory to the ALS Foundation.

dear maryanne, just read in the paper about bobs recent death. please accept my sincerest sympathies. while i did not know bob well, i did know him to have a love of the lord.he is surely home and we are homesick. blessings annie
Mary, I attended Bible study(at the Mill) with your husband, Bob(and Jim Lewis). I remember him as a committed christian…a man who genuinely loved our Lord. What a fine witness for our Lord, he was. Your Husband/Father was Bob’s boss in wheeling Pitt’s ( Cold Strip). Bob alway’s talked about your husband with great respect. He admired him as a boss.when you have a boss that you like that make’s the job much easier to go to and your husband was one of the nice one. I have heard great storie’s about when they worked together( Cold Strip). My husband retired in 1997 after the strike and Bob still think’s about the mill time’s and some of the men that they all worked with together.
