Robert J. Horvath, Sr., of Weirton, WV died Saturday, November 7, 2020. He was 78. Bob was born in his home in Holliday’s Cove, WV on February 21, 1942, the youngest of three children born to Michael and Helen Petroski Horvath. Bob graduated from Follansbee High School in 1960. He enlisted in the United States Army and served his country for three years, including time deployed in Korea. Bob made his lifelong career with Weirton Steel, working in the Tin Mill Electronics department. He retired after 36 years of service. Outside of work, Bob had a sincere love for family and friends, and was an avid traveler. He and his wife Lynn enjoyed many cruises to his favorite destinations in the Caribbean and Panama Canal. Every Christmas season for nearly 20 years, Bob and Lynn took joy in donating their time to area children as Santa and Mrs. Claus. He also enjoyed volunteering with the grounds crew of Saint Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church. Bob was a lifelong member of Saint Joseph Roman Catholic Church, a member of Knights of Columbus 3734, Fourth Degree Assembly, VFW 2716, American Legion Post 10, and the Weirton Steel 25 Year Club. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Michael Horvath, and his sister, Marion Pilot. Bob will be remembered with love by his wife, Lynn Brown Horvath, whom he married in 1999; son Robert James (Lora) Horvath, Jr.; daughter Melissa (Joe) Evans and his amazing grandchildren, Jack Evans and Anna Horvath. Friends and family will be received Wednesday from 4-8pm at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am Thursday at St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church with the Reverend Father Dennis Schuelkens, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in St. Paul Cemetery, Weirton with military services being conducted by the United States Army and the American Legion Honor Guards.   1. Lynn and family, due to a previous commitment I will be unable to attend the visitation on Wednesday. Bob was a wonderful person, and a good neighbor, and will be missed.

  2. Bob added smiles to any place he visited. God received an A+ Angel in him. We are so lucky to of had him as a friend.

  3. Worked with Bob many years first on overhead crane and later in the Tin mill electronics dept. Bob was always helpful and kind, pleasant to work with and we shared many meals and laughs together, I can still hear his laugh loud and boisterous, full of life. Lynn and family, St Joes Preschool is SO incredibly sorry for the loss of your Santa…We loved having the two of you every year at our school celebrating the Christmas season with our little ones! We will always remember how sweet and gentle he was with the preschoolers, even the ones who were afraid of him. We will be praying for your entire family!
