robert strope, sr.
Robert P. Strope, Sr., 74, of Burgettstown, PA, passed away Sunday, December 12, 2010 in the Washington Hospital, Washington, PA. Born February 29, 1936 in Follansbee, WV, he was a son of the late William J. and Ethel Stiffler Strope, Sr. He was also preceded in death by his brother William J. Strope, Jr. Mr. Strope is survived by his wife Nancy Mitchell Strope of Burgettstown, whom he married September 14, 1957; sons Robert P. Strope, Jr. and his wife Debra and R. Scott Strope all of Burgettstown; daughters Tammy Lynn Freeland and her husband Richard of Weirton and Terri A. Barton and her husband Richard L. of Dry Ridge, KY; brother Donald W. Strope and his wife Linda of Mt. Vernon, OH; sister Barbara Gum and her husband Kerth of New Cumberland; 12 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren plus one on-the-way. He also leaves his loving dog Sadie and cat Muffit. In 1993, with 36 years of service, Robert retired from Weirton Steel where he finished his career in the Sheet Mill. He was a member of the Paris Nazarene Church, enjoyed hunting, anything that involved the outdoors and woodworking. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and was known as a family man by every sense of the word. Friends will be received Thursday from 2 until the time of memorial service at 4pm at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton. The Reverend Darrell Cashdollar will officiate. Nancy & family, We will miss Bob so much, he was the most loving caring friend anyone could hope for, he knew how to express his feelings in the most loving & gentle manner, anytime we were together he always told us how much he loved us. We always admired what a great husband, father, & grandfather he was. I remember when his dear mother was in a nursing home how important his daily visits to her were even though she no longer knew who he was, he so lovingly fed her and took care of her needs.   5. Bob was a gem of a brother-in-law. He was a gentle man and a gentleman as well. Children loved him as well as adults and he left a legacy of love with his family. He will be missed by many.

I always remembered his leap year birthdate even after all these years. I will remember the date of his death also, as it was my Dad’s birthday. He will live forever in your hearts and memories.
