Rose Ann Nichols, 54, was born to the late Owen and Edith Ryan Gallagher on June 12, 1949 in Steubenville, OH. Rose Ann was kind hearted and extremely charitable. She grew up in Weirton, WV, with her parents, two brothers, and four sisters. After graduating from Madonna High School in Weirton in 1967 and the Ohio Valley School of Nursing in Steubenville in 1970, she began working as a registered nurse. She worked in many different departments at St. John’s Hospital in Steubenville and the Weirton General Hospital before deciding to practice psychiatric nursing, specializing in counseling those with drug problems. She and her husband, John R. Nichols, met through their counseling work. He volunteered during his spare time to help those in need. They married and continued their work together in Steubenville. Together they raised their son, Ian R. Nichols, who sadly passed away on April 8, 1998. When John passed away on December 6, 1985, Rose Ann decided to become a traveling nurse. She traveled to many cities and eventually chose New Orleans, Louisiana as her home. There she worked as a psychiatric nurse at Charity Hospital, doing the work she loved. After health problems developed, she came home to be with her sisters. Rose Ann died Monday July 28, 2003 in Weirton, WV. In addition to her parents and her son, she was preceded in death by her two brothers, Bernard and Patrick Gallagher. Surviving are her four sisters, Theresa (Kenneth) Dodson and Mary K.
