Russell R. Carpenter

Russell R. Carpenter, 91, a resident of Catherine's Care Center of Steubenville, Ohio, formerly of Weirton, WV passed away Friday, May 30, 2008 at Trinity Medical Center West. Born August 24, 1916 in Rayland, Ohio, he was the son of the late Oscar E. and Anna C. Hendershot Carpenter. Mr. Carpenter was preceded in death by his brother William G. Carpenter and sister Mildred Watts. Mr. Carpenter retired from Weirton Steel in 1975 where he worked in the Strip Steel Department. He was Catholic by faith and a member of the WSX 25-Year Club. Mr. Carpenter served in the United States Army during World War II. He is survived by his niece Sherilyn Bumgardner and her husband Butch of Weirton; nephew William G. Carpenter, Jr. of St. Petersburg, FL; great-nephews Michael Bumgardner and his wife Danielle of Gloucester, VA and Chris Bumgardner and his wife Beth of Wasilla, Alaska; great-great niece Hailey Bumgardner and his dog Rustie. Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton.
