Stanley Wargacki

Stanley Wargacki, 82, of Weirton, passed away Friday, May 26, 2006 at the Weirton Medical Center. Born November 10, 1923 in Mineral Ridge, Ohio, he was the son of the late Mike and Rose Olszowa Wargacki. Stanley was also preceded in death by his brothers John and Frank. Stanley graduated from Weir High School in 1942. He then attended the University of Southern California having graduated with a degree in Petroleum Engineering in 1950. In 1944, he served in the US Air Force Bomber Squadron 409 where he was the navigator on B-17 bombers in England. He flew 3 missions in World War II, bombing Germany 10 days prior to the end of the war. In 1959, he moved back to Weirton where he developed, surveyed and built homes. Stanley was a member of Sacred Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church and spent his mornings at the donut shop reading the newspaper and having a cup of tea with friends. He is survived by his brother Alphonze Wargacki and his wife Ann of Weirton; nephew Mark Wargacki of Atlanta, GA; nieces Margaret Valuska of Weirton, Marie Vazzano of Brandywine, MD and Nancy Ostinato of Fairfax, VA; sister in law, Iris, and his long time friend Dimitri Akis and his family. Stanley requested there be no visitation. Memorial mass will be celebrated Wednesday June 7, 2006 at 10:30 AM at Sacred Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church. Arrangements are being handled by Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton.
