Stella R. Ruszkowski, 84, of Weirton, passed away Monday, January 1, 2007 at the Valley Hospice Palliative Care Unit in Steubenville, Ohio. Born August 15, 1922 in Weirton, she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Catherine Sagan Paluch. Stella was also preceded in death by her husband Stanley F. Ruszkowski on December 5, 1991, daughter Barbara K. Silvestri on December 5, 2003, brothers and sister Thaddeus Schodzinski, Henry Paluch and Sister Mary Rita Schodzinski. Stella was a homemaker and for 10 years worked as a payroll clerk for Weirton Steel. She was a member of Sacred Heart of Mary Church, where she served as church secretary, and led the rosary at daily mass for many years. Stella was also very active in assisting with the cooking and baking of the Lenten dinners, and any church function. She was a member of the Christian Mothers, Rosary Society, Holy Family Guild, Sacred Heart Choir, Polish National Alliance and the ISDA. Stella’s survivors include her daughter Rita Ruszkowski and her fiancé Joseph Gazdik, Jr. of Tiltonsville, Ohio; son-in-law Gary Silvestri of Imperial, PA; sisters Marie Pitchford of Aptos, CA, Bernice Pirro of San Francisco, CA, Rose Grossi and her husband Chester of Weirton, Theresa Morando and her husband Rocco of Bellefontaine, Ohio and Delores Bandish and her husband John of Monacca, PA; grandchildren Nathan J. and Alyssa R. Silvestri both of Imperial, PA and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Wednesday 2-4 and 6-8PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated 10AM Thursday at the Sacred Heart of Mary Church with Reverend Father Kent Durig presiding. Interment will be in St. Paul Cemetery. The family would like to express their thanks to Stella’s niece, Monica Grossi, for her endless love and tender care and to Valley Hospice for their support and comfort.
