Stephen Thomas Almason, 65, of Weirton, passed away January 16, 2008 at his residence. Born October 4, 1942 in Steubenville, Ohio, he was the son of Clara Rybka Almason Battista of Weirton and the late Stephen Almason. Stephen was a graduate of Weir High School and the St. John X-Ray School. He retired from the Trinity West Radiology Department and was employed by Mittal Steel where he worked as a clerk for the Finish Products Warehouse. He was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus 3734 and Hall's Hunting Club. In addition to his mother, Stephen is survived by his wife Karen Crumbaker Almason of Weirton; sons Stephen Almason III and his wife Allison of Belair, MD and Shannon Almason of Weirton; brother David Almason and his wife Sally of Charlotte, NC; grandson Joseph Almason; step-sister Toni Applegate of Mars, PA; step-brother, Pete Battista Jr., of Bridgeville, PA; aunt Goldie Baly of Weirton, niece Monica Smith and her husband Michael of Twinsville, OH, cousins and his puppy friend Lucky. Friends will be received Sunday from 1-3 and 6-8PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton. The Knights of Columbus will recite the Rosary, Sunday at 6 PM in the funeral home. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated 10AM Monday at St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church. Reverend Father Dean Borgmeyer will officiate. Interment will be in Highland Hills Memorial Gardens.
