Theodore John Walaszczyk, 86, passed away on Tuesday, October 13, 2015. Teddy was a lifelong resident of Weirton, WV, spending the last two months in Suffolk, VA. Teddy was predeceased by his wife of 39 years, Marilyn "Pinky" Miser Walaszczyk, his son, John Ronald Walaszczyk, his parents John Walaszczyk and Mary Zborowska Walaszczyk, and sisters Evelyn Walaszczyk Zapor and Jessie Walaszczyk Backel. Teddy is survived by his daughters, Claire Richmond Fields of McLean, VA, and Diane Walaszczyk Nelms (Robert) of Suffolk, his son John Richmond (Lucy) of Monterey, CA, grandchildren John Richmond and Celeste Richmond of Los Angeles, CA, Harrison B. Nelms of Virginia Beach, VA, his brother Walter Walaszczyk (Mary Ann) of Weirton and his very special friend, Roberta "Robbie" France of Steubenville, OH. Ted is an Army veteran of the Korean War, First Infantry Division (the Big Red One) and retired from Weirton Steel Corporation after 45 years, beginning first as a 16 year old lifeguard at the Marland Heights Pool. He is a member of the Weirton Steel 25 Year Club, an inductee of the West Virginia Football Hall of Fame, a member of the Hancock County Sportsman's Club, the Gatabouts Club, the Tri-State Winemaker's Club and Sacred Heart of Mary Church. Visitation will be held at Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton on Saturday, October 17, 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. A 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 18 service will be held at the Chapel at Union Cemetery, Steubenville, Ohio. Memorial gifts to the charity of your choice are suggested.
