Thomas Edward Dodson, a generous loving son, brother, husband, father and friend, died Wednesday, July 21st, 2021. He was 63. He was a retired Lieutenant with the Weirton Police Department. As he was known to family and friends, Tommy was born to Kenneth and Theresa Gallagher Dodson on September 23, 1957. He graduated from Weirton Madonna High School in 1975, where he played football and wrestled for the Blue Dons. As a young boxer, he was known to have the fastest hands in Weirton. After high school, Tommy attended West Virginia Northern College and was employed by Weirton General Hospital, Weirton Steel, and others before becoming a member of the Weirton Police Department in 1979. On October 4, 1980, Tommy happily married Jeri Lynn Edwards and in 1986, they were blessed in their son, Corey. They shared a loving life together. Tommy’s career with the Police Department spanned 33 years, where he was a Patrolman and a Detective. After retiring from the Police force, Tommy worked security at Lifeline Hospital and the Hancock County Courthouse. Even though Tommy endured health problems for the last fifteen years, he fought the greatest fight with courage and dignity. He never once complained. He was a lifelong fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers. He enjoyed watching and attending games and riding his Harley with his loving girlfriend, Rene’, whom he shared wonderful life together. He enjoyed fishing and riding dirt bikes/quads and joy of muscle cars with his son, Corey. Tommy was a member of Saint Paul’s Roman Catholic Church and the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 84. He will always be remembered for his kind and easy-going nature. He could always find humor even in the face of adversity. Tommy was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Dodson. He will be remembered with love and caring by his mother, Theresa, his son Corey, Corey’s Mother, Jeri Dodson, His girlfriend Rene’ Holbrook of 20 years and her son Shawn Lonchar and his daughter Bridgette, his sisters Patricia (Jim) Murphy and Sharon (Terry) Simmons; his nephews Blaise Simmons and Christopher (Angela) Murphy; sister-in-law Cindy (John) Cerasoli, Terry (Crystal) Edwards, nieces Angela (Ron) Wilson, Gina and Kristian Cerasoli and nephews Justin and Josh Edwards.   2. I never got the pleasure to.meet Tom but through his sister Patricia I knew what a wonderful man he was. I tried to help Patricia through Tom’s journey, and help her cope so many miles away from her loved ones.. Patricia is having a very hard time with his death as it was so soon I would like to send all my love and prayers to Weirten to the Dodson family and all his loving friends his girlfriend Rene that Pat told me is a wonderful woman and Corey I hope you can have a good life Corey and remember your great father I really wish I would have met him.   7. So sorry to hear about the passing of Tommy. As a rookie deputy with the Brooke County Sheriff’s Dept. Tommy was one of the first police officers from another department to meet up with me while on patrol and wish me good luck and support if needed. It was the start of a good friendship.
