tressie mitchell
Tressie Vay Mitchell of Weirton, WV, formerly of New Manchester, WV, passed away on Saturday, January 16, 2021. She was 91. Born on October 6, 1929, in Akron, OH, Tressie was the third of six children born to Peter B. Hall and Retta Brannon Hall. Vay grew up on Beatty Run, WV in Ravenswood, WV. She married Lawrence Ray Mitchell in February of 1947. With a young family and job opportunities in Weirton Steel, Tressie and her husband moved to Weirton. Lawrence worked on the galvanizing line in the sheet mill, and Tressie took care of the home. She also worked outside her home at Waterford Park and as a teacher's aide at New Manchester Elementary School for fourteen years. Vay was very active in the Christian Church of New Manchester. She loved singing in the church choir. Her love for singing had her singing in a country band as her husband played the guitar. When she was a resident of the Hancock House, Tressie sang in the senior choir. When she was younger, Vay and her husband enjoyed traveling on the weekends to Ohio to watch country bands perform. In addition to her parents, Tressie was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Ray Mitchell in 1999; her sons, Larry Mitchell, in 2006; and Bernard Mitchell in 2019; brothers, Bert and Bernard Hall, and her sisters, Faye Bourjeois, Ada Robinson, and Nina Kaplun. She will be remembered with love by her daughter, Frances (Richard) Majoris; daughters in law, Susie and Barbara Mitchell; grandchildren, Brian (Jenn) Brandolino, Matthew (Kelly) Mitchell, Megan(Mickey) McGrogan; great-grandchildren, Riley McGrogan, Cilia, and Ryan Mitchell. Private family visitation will be held at the Greco Hertnick Funeral Home on Tuesday. Entombment will follow at Shadow Lawn Memorial Gardens. Share tributes at www.grecohertnick.com
