umberto traffichini
Umberto "Bert" Traffichini, 87, of Weirton, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 in the Weirton Medical Center. Born April 13, 1925 in Castel Frentano Chieti, Italy, he was the son of the late Tommaso and Maria Caporale Traffichini. He was also preceded in death by his wife Maria DiBattista Traffichini on November 21, 2006, whom he married February 16, 1946 in Castel Frentano, Chieti, Italy. He served in the Italian Army. Bert and Maria immigrated to the United States in 1954. In 1989, with 34 years of service, Mr. Traffichini retired from Weirton Steel where he worked as a pipe fitter in the Tin Mill Pipe Shop. One of his favorite pastimes was working in his garden. He was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus 3734, where he enjoyed playing cards and bocce. He is survived by his sons Tom Traffichini of Weirton and Mario Traffichini and his fianc Janette Lapcevic of Imperial, PA; daughter Toni Ann Traffichini of Weirton; granddaughter Andrea Traffichini of Imperial; sisters Rosaria and Gabriella and their children all of Italy. Friends will be received Friday 4-8 pm at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, where the Knights of Columbus Rosary will be recited at 6 PM. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated 10 am Saturday at St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church with The Reverend Father Manuel Gelido presiding. Entombment will follow in St. Paul Cemetery, Weirton.   7. Umberto was truly a pleasure to take care of in the hospital. I am saddened by his passing, but find solace in knowing that he was surrounded by his loved ones through it all.
