william baird, jr.
William Cummins "Bill" Baird, Jr., 89, of Weirton, passed away Tuesday, August 4, 2015 at his home. Born September 3, 1925 in Mahaffey, PA, he was a son of the late William C. Baird, Sr. and Sarah Pollock Baird. He was also preceded in death by his brothers Frank, Paul, Harold and Wendell Baird and sister Betty Lauttamus. A proud veteran of World War II, Bill served his country with the United States Army. He often spoke of the war with pride in his voice. He had a love for flight, and would take friends and family for rides, as he piloted his piper cub out of Heron Airport. He also enjoyed his toys on the ground, as he will always be remembered for his interest in automobiles. After a 39 year career, he retired from Weirton Steel where he worked on the Production Line in the Sheet Mill. Mr. Baird is survived by his wife, Thelma Shrenkle Baird , whom he married on July 11, 1953; a son William C.Baird III, of Follansbee, WV; daughters, Sandra Flowers and Carol Baird, both of Weirton; a sister, Ruth Byron of Lynnwood, NJ; grandchildren, Stacy (Chris) Cullinan, Amber Baird, Breanna Baird, Ethan Baird; great-grandson Brayden Stevens and a great granddaughter on the way, Vivienne Claire Cullinan. Private services will be held at the convenience of his family. In lieu of flowers, Bill's family would prefer that you do a random act of kindness in his memory.
