William T. (Bill) Mathews

William "Bill" T. Mathews, 81, of Weirton, passed away Friday, December 18, 2009 at his home. Born May 25, 1928 in Pittsburgh, PA, he was the son of the late William and Bessie Kirkendall Mathews. He was also preceded in death by his wife Frances "Fran" Mae Creasy Mathews in 1980.
For 49 years, Bill was the General Manager of Tri-State Auto in Weirton, Steubenville and Carnegie, PA. He was a member of the Cove Presbyterian Church and B.P.O.E. 1801. He enjoyed golfing in his spare time. You could always find Bill engrossed in the books that he selected from the Mary H. Library.
Mr. Mathews is survived by his son William John Mathews and his wife Carol of Morgantown, WV; daughters Judith Lynn Sanders of Deerfield, OH and Betty Jean Hanson and her husband Dan of Weirton; grandchildren Ian, Jonathan and Christopher Mathews and Jamie and Joshua Perry; sister Peggy Hartin of Mt. Lebanon, PA and his much beloved caregiver Loretta Williams.
Friends will be received Monday 2-4 and 6-8PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton where services will be conducted at 8PM. Pastor Betty Jean Hanson will officiate. Interment will be in Chestnut Ridge Cemetery, Florence, PA.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Mary H. Weir Library, 442 Main Street, Weirton, WV 26062.
Bill was a much loved father, grand dad and friend. He will be missed and his memories will be cherished for quite a long time. I thank the Lord that Bill is at peace now and with his lovely bride Francis and with our Lord Jesus Christ. Love, Deacon from Wildradio Network

John, Betty Jean and Judy I’m sorry to hear about the passing of your dad. As you know, my dad passed away last year. Now, we are the older generation that is to carry on. Please know that you three have been on my mind over the years. I have fond memories of family get togethers at the “farm” and at your parents home.
