Harry Michael “Mike” Kochman, 69, passed peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer on July 14, 2018. He was born June 7, 1949 in Steubenville, Ohio the third child of Edward and Dorothy (Jackie) Kochman. Mike was a graduate of Weir High class of 1967. Upon graduation he was employed by Weirton Steel, attended business college and was drafted into the United States Army in 1969. He served his country with honor in Vietnam in the 197 Infantry Brigade where he was exposed to Agent Orange. Mike fought in two major campaigns where he received the Vietnam service Medal with two Bronze Stars for heroism. He returned home in 1971, but his battle never ended. Mike found his niche as Human Resource Manager with Fluor-Daniels based in South Carolina where he flourished at the opportunity of helping others. He took an early retirement and returned to Weirton to be close to family and his ailing mother. He was an avid sports fan, enjoyed history, politics, old movies, and music. He found solace in nature and enjoyed time spent at his lake house with family and friends. There was an open-door policy with only one rule…” Take all the love you want but leave a little behind”. Mike was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, VFW, and the American Legion. Mike was tall in stature and big in heart, never falling to tell you “God Bless You”. Mike leaves behind an extended family to cherish his memory, his sisters, Beverly (Steve) Spiewak, Patricia Bittrick, Margaret Kochman; his brothers, Edward (Kitty) Kochman, Richard Kochman; 13 nieces and nephews; 8 great nieces and nephews; 4 great great nieces and nephews; numerous cousins and his beloved feline boys Tat and Willie. A special thanks to all who visited and prayed for Mike. Friends will be received on Wednesday, July 18, 2018 from 10:30-11:30 am at St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1130 am. Interment with full military honors will be held at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville, PA at 2 pm.   6. Our world has been blessed beyond measure with Harry’s, who we knew affectionately in SC as Mr. Big, presence. His love for the Lord, his family, close friends and all living things were qualities that made Mr. Big special. Even through life’s most challenging times, his faith and values remained steadfast. His legacy of good and the many cherished memories we had together will be with us always.

  7. Dear Koachman Family: I just got the news. Please let me give you a memory of Mike. Truly one of the nicest. funniest and great friends one could ever have. I will miss him greatly. I sincerely hope and pray every one else has those same memories. You have my deepest sympathy I too feel the grief. Although I hadn’t seen Mike for several years I thought of him often. I would sometimes just start laughing when thinking of our youthful adventures. Patty will remember what I’m talking about. I loved Mike and I love you too Patty.
