Percy Eugene Freeman, Sr., a beloved son, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, in the Emergency Room of WVU Weirton Medical Center. Born on December 22, 1975, in Steubenville, Percy was a son of Clara Etta Freeman.

A graduate of Steubenville Big Red High School in 1995, Percy furthered his education by earning an associate’s degree in Small Business and Entrepreneurship from Belmont Technical College. He has worked for the past six years at the Amazon Fulfillment Center in Imperial, PA. His love for learning and ambition was evident in every endeavor he pursued.

Percy was a devoted family man whose heart overflowed with love for those around him. He was known for his welcoming spirit, never meeting a stranger and always ready with a smile and a helping hand. His wife Sheila fondly noted he was “the best man ever,” a testament to the warmth and kindness he consistently shared.

A man of faith, Percy found strength and comfort in his favorite prayer, the Serenity Prayer, which defined his outlook on life. He had a passionate devotion to his favorite teams, cheering on the Ohio State Buckeyes and the San Francisco Forty-Niners.

Percy cherished his family above all, finding joy in the laughter and love shared with his grandchildren. His legacy will undoubtedly live on in their hearts and in the memories of all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Percy was preceded in death by his parents.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of twenty-four years, Sheila McCartney of Weirton, sons Percy Freeman, Jr., Lewis Anderson-Freeman, Richard Lawrence, Marlon Lawrence Jr., and his fiance’, Maysha Mullins, all of Steubenville, brother Phillip (Joy) Freeman, grandchildren Kaelynn, Avani, and D’Lylah Lawrence, and his nephews Phillip, Sylvester, and Jacob Freeman, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Percy’s request for cremation will be honored.

He will be cremated at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home Crematory, 3219 Main Street, Weirton.
