Adam Rudnicki
December 15, 1921 ~ February 14, 2014
Adam Rudnicki, 92, of Weirton, passed away Friday, February 14, 2014 at his home. Adam was born December 15, 1921 in Poland. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife Helen Gillert Rudnicki on April 10, 1997 and three sisters.
Adam retired from Weirton Steel. He was a very active member of Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church. You could find him singing in the choir or helping with the Lenten dinners and the Polish Picnic.
At a very young age, Adam's family moved from Poland to Weirton. Shortly afterwards, the family moved back to Poland to take care of the family farm. Adam worked on the farm until he was 17 when his father and uncle were shot and killed by the Germans. Adam then lived as a slave to a German family for 4 years. The Americans then arrived and Adam was liberated and eventually came to the United States, where he made his home in Weirton.
Adam is survived by his niece Morzana Bozena Slowakiewicz of Poland and locally survived by a host of friends, neighbors and church family who consider Adam part of their own family.
Visitation will be held 5-7PM on Monday at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV, where the Rosary will be recited at 5PM. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated 10AM Tuesday at Sacred Heart of Mary Church with the Reverend Father Anthony G. Thurston officiating. Interment will be in St. Paul Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Post Office Box 2247, Weirton, WV 26062.
We enjoyed speaking with Adam when attending Mass at Sacred Heart of Mary Church. I’m sure he will be missed by many. We extend our sympathies to his family and friends.

I am so saddened to see that Adam passed away. He would come in to my agency and show us many polish items, letters, etc and always a smile and friendly face, and many stories to tell us! We will surely miss him and his visits! He was such a special man. May his soul rest in peace.
