Alan G. "Big Al" McCullough, 65, of Weirton went home to be with his Lord and Savior and to be with his first love, Frances on Sunday July 28, 2013. Born on September 15th, 1947, in Clarksburg, WV, Alan was the son of the late Carroll Gale and Sarah Louise Britton McCullough. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Frances Polverini McCullough, on April 5, 1997. Big Al as he was known to family and friends, retired after 30 years of service from the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners Union Local 186. He also owned and operated, along with his wife Vicki, Big Al's Bar and Grill on Pennsylvania Avenue in Weirton for 9 years. Big Al was an avid hunter, and fisherman, where he enjoyed fishing on Walleye Charters in Lake Erie or deer hunting with his friends. He loved to garden and cook. One of his favorite pastimes was sports. He enjoyed shooting pool, and watching his Pittsburgh Pirates, Steelers and WV Mountaineers. But nothing compared to the excitement he felt when number 44 Tim Faulkner carried the football for the Brooke Bruins. This past weekend, Big Al was saved by the Grace of God at the Homecoming that was held at the Weirton Event Center. This Homecoming was put on my area churches which included Family of God Christian Center, Tri State Church of God and the New Life Worship Center. Big Al will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Vicki Whitten McCullough, whom he married on July 31, 2003; his daughters, Alanna McCullough, Raleigh, NC, Amber McCullough (Jason Rodgers) of Weirton, WV, Megan Truax (Kevin) of New Manchester, WV, Lacey Kepner (Nathan) of Smithfield OH and Summer Yeager of Weirton, WV; a son, Seth Hahn of Columbus, OH; his sisters, C. Jean Haines of Pittsburgh, PA and Jill Dieguez of Weirton, WV; his nine grandchildren, Emilee, Michael and Cody Britton, Nicholas, Gianna and Addison Truax, Avery and Kaleb Kepner, and Garrett Yeager; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews; too many friends to count and his beloved dog, Red. Visitation will be 6-8 PM Wednesday and 2-4 and 6-8 Thursday at the Greco -Hertnick Funeral Home 3219 Main Street Weirton, WV, where funeral services will be held 11 AM Friday. Pastor Curt Mosser will preside. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Weirton.

  12. Thoughts & prayers go out to the whole family, Alan & his friends grew up in my neighborhood & we all spent a lot of time playing & listening to records at my house or Bobby Willisons. Then later when I moved back to this area, we saw each other in passing, one included a 4-H event when the girls were in 4-H & I was a Club Leader, another when he introduced me to Vicki. I remember how tore up he was over his first wife’s death & the joy he found in Vicki. Alan was always very kind, full of fun & I know to be a loving husband & father. God has left you all many wonderful memories to treasure & be at peace with knowing Alan is in His Father’s Loving Arms. God Bless!
