alexander selip

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Alexander “Alex” Jonathan Selip, 35, of Weirton, WV. Alex was found by two fishermen near the riverbanks of the Ohio River after being missing since January 8, 2025. His unexpected passing leaves a hole in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Born on August 28, 1989, in Jeanette, PA, Alex was the beloved son of Alan and Janet M. Rendulich Selip, and the cherished brother of Nathan Selip, and loving father of Lucas Alec Selip-Mason. He was a graduate of Weir High School, Class of 2008, and furthered his education at West Virginia Northern Community College and Jefferson Technical Institute.

Alex spent much of his life working as a delivery driver for several local businesses and national corporations. Though health issues later prevented him from continuing his career, he remained focused on what mattered most—his family. Above all, Alex was a devoted and loving father to his son, Lucas Alec Selip-Mason. He found joy in every moment spent with him, and Lucas was the light of his life.

Known for his kindness, generosity, and good-hearted nature, Alex was a friend to all. He was connected to his faith and attended Saint Paul’s Roman Catholic Church in Weirton, where he nourished his spiritual life. Alex’s love for music was vast, spanning many genres. In his free time, he found solace in walking and hiking through nature, he loved family gatherings, and enjoyed his many hobbies, including collecting baseball cards, table card games, and coins. He was a passionate participant in the Aftanas Fantasy Football league, looking forward to the competition every season.

He was preceded in death by his infant brother, Ben Selip, on May 31, 1988, as well as his grandparents, George and Betty Nemeth Rendulich, and John and Anna Lutz Selip, and many aunts uncles and cousins.

Though his time with us was far too short, Alex’s memory will live on through the countless lives he touched with his warmth, compassion, and unwavering love including his son Lucas Alec Selip-Mason, his mother and father, Alan and Janet Selip; his brother, Nathan Selip; his many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Friends and family are invited to attend a visitation one hour prior to the Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday from 11 AM until the time of the Funeral at 12 Noon at Saint Paul’s Roman Catholic Church in Weirton, WV.

All are invited to join his family at the Mass of Christian Burial and afterwards for a luncheon.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, Saint Paul’s Roman Catholic Church or to the Weirton Salvation Army.

  4. Candle Selection 6Alan and Janet, so sad to read about the unexpected passing of your son Alex. We have been praying for his safe return after learning he was missing through mutual friends, but it was not meant to be. May God comfort you at this time of sorrow, and remember, Alex’s story did not end in the freezing waters of the Ohio River, but rather in the warm embrace of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. May God Bless you all as you gather to celebrate Alex’s life and his impact on all who love him.

  5. Janet, Al and family I am so so sorry this happened. Alex is resting peacefully with God and will always be watching over you.

  6. Candle Selection 3Alex,
You were always such a mellow-fellow with a kind heart. I will always remember when Lucas and Kenzie played together (way before they were old enough to remember it now). I have no words to express how much my heart goes out to your parents, and even more, your sweet son. I hope you find peace and warmth in the next life. I’m sure Lucas will always feel you watching over him & smiling down from above. You will be missed.

  7. Candle Selection 5Alan and Janet,
I just found out about your loss. I am so sorry for you and for Lucas and Nathan. I can’t imagine what this past month must have been like. It seems that Alex was blessed with many talents and gave back so much through his kindnes to others and through his church. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

  8. Candle Selection 2There are no words that can be said to make any of this better other than I am so sorry to his family for his loss. Alex was my locker neighbor and bus buddy through all four years of high school. At least until he got a car, then he was my locker neighbor.
I remember for the first two months of freshman year he could NOT open his locker for anything and I’d have to open it almost every day for him. First day he sheepishly said, “Idk how to do these stupid things..” I poked fun at him relentlessly and he’d pick on me because I couldn’t reach the top of the locker storage. But he would grab my books for me and laugh at the irony that I had the top cubby even though I couldn’t reach it haha.

Alex was a really kind, gentle person quick for a laugh and had a knack for seeing when you weren’t at your best that day. Junior year he took my best friend from another school to homecoming and we all went in a group. We had so much fun that night.
I remember one time I came home to visit like 10 years ago, ran into him and I was SO EXCITED to see him and just shoot the breeze about what we were each up to. It’s sad to know that I won’t just bump into you again and catch up..
But I hope that wherever your spirit is, that you are okay and watching over those who loved you.
    I will miss you Squelch..
    -Erica
