Alexander Stakias, 76, of Weirton, passed away Friday, September 3. 2010, in the Weirton Medical Center, following a lengthy illness. He was born April 6, 1934 in Weirton, WV, the son of the late Apostolos and Chrysanthy Janodis Stakias. His brothers Harry and George Stakias, also preceded him in death. Alex was a former employee of National Steel Corporation. He retired from the Hancock County Sheriff�s Department where he was Chief Deputy of Hancock County. He was a member of All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, the Ahepa Chapter of Weirton and the American Legion Post 10. He served his country in the US Navy and was a Korean War Veteran. He is survived by his wife Dorothea Arnas Stakias of Weirton, whom he married June 9, 1957; daughters, Vangelle Stakias of Wintersville, OH, Cynthia Widenhouse and her husband Dr. Brian Widenhouse of Charleston, SC and Dr. Alexandra George and her husband John S. George II of Mars, PA; grandchildren, Alexandra and Nicole Mougianis, Melina and Amalea George, Cristian and Lexi Widenhouse; and his sister Penny Diniaco and her husband Gus of Weirton, WV; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Sunday, September 5, 2010, from 4-8 PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main St, Weirton, WV. Additional visitation will be Monday, September 6, 2010 from 10 to 11AM, at the All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, Weirton. The funeral service will follow at 11 AM. Interment will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Weirton Honor Guard. The family would like to thank Dr. Keith Bravo, Dr. Stanley Manino and the wonderful nurses and aides of the Weirton Medical Center for their care, patience and compassion.   3. Alex was my roomate at the West Virginia Police Academy from Sept. of 1985 through December. His sense of humor and friendship will always be remembered. He always spoke about his wife and daughters with such pride and obvious love. Please accept my sympathy.
