alfred contumelio

Alfred Contumelio, 84, of Paris, PA, passed away peacefully at the Weirton Medical Center on Friday, June 14, 2024.

He was born on September 6, 1939, the youngest of five children born to Luigi and Angela Pate Contumelio.

Alfred graduated from Weir High School in 1958 and married the love of his life, Gloria Bruno, on May 12, 1962. The couple’s journey began at a wedding where a young lady from Canonsburg, PA, Gloria’s hometown, married a young man from Weirton, WV. In their 62 years of marriage, Alfred and Gloria were blessed with a son, two daughters, seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

Alfred dedicated 21 years of his life to working in the coal mines at Starvaggi Industries before transitioning to Weirton Steel, where he retired as a Dispatch Supervisor of the trucking department after 13 years.

His service extended beyond his professional life as he also served in the United States Army Reserves.

Active in his community, Alfred was a former Hanover Township Supervisor and a member of the American Legion Post 10. His faith was deeply important to him, and he found nourishment at Saint Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, where he was a member of the Holy Name Society and served as an usher at Sunday Mass.

Alfred was known for his warm sense of humor and his love of making people laugh. He was a talented woodworker and had a passion for doing body work and painting cars.

In addition to his parents, Alfred was preceded in death by his brother, Albert Contumelio and his sisters, Mary Magnone, Rosa Guglielmo, and Josephine DeFelice.

He will be remembered with love by his wife Gloria, his son, Louis (Renee) Contumelio; his daughters, Annette (Paul) Newborn and Christina Contumelio; seven grandchildren, Shauna, Joseph and Ella Contumelio, Sierra (Dakota) Jones, Brooke and Andrew Newborn and Nicole (Josh) Wentz; and three great grandchildren, Jackson, Lili and Riot.

  5. Annette and family: I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I do hope you told your dad I said Hello when we ran into each other; He was always so pleasant at WSX and I always enjoyed seeing him at church. He’s at rest now and another 1 of our guardian angels…Take care and as always – I love you my friend!

  6. Candle Selection 1Aunt Gloria, Lou & Renee & Family, Annette & Paul & Family, Christiana and other family members of our beloved Uncle Alfred. We have very fond memories of Uncle Alfred. He always had a smile on his face at the family reunions. Loved seeing him wear his Italian t-shirts and hat (Evan has one like him now!) Remembering all the times we played Bocci ball with him or even towards the more recent family reunions, cornhole. Loved all the times my (Caterina) family would come over and do a family visit at the home, he loved to talk and share stories. Shawn truly enjoyed the time he “lived” with him and Aunt Gloria while waiting for his family to join him back up here to live. They talked about sports and even watched them together, talked about hunting and other manly things! We are so happy that he has accepted the gift of Salvation through Jesus cause we will meet up with him sometime soon. Love and prayers to all of you for peace and strength as you await reuniting with him. Love his niece and nephews, Caterina, Shawn, Levi & Evan Levato PS If you haven’t received the FREE GIFT of salvation, just believe in your heart that Jesus is Who He says He is “I am THE WAY, THE LIFE & THE TRUTH, no man comes to the Father BUT BY ME!” Believe that He died on the cross for your sins, that God raised Him from the dead and CONFESS THAT JESUS IS YOUR LORD, you shall be saved and live forever with HIm and all those who went before Uncle Alfred by death. Pray this if you haven’t done it yet” Thank You God for sending Jesus to die for my sins, I believe He is Your Son and I confess Him as Lord, Amen!” If you prayed this prayer, please reply “I prayed this prayer!
