Ancel C. Wise

Ancel C. Wise, Jr., 74, of Weirton, WV died Thursday, September 5, 2002, at the Weirton Medical Center. He was born on January 17, 1928, in Center Point, WV, the son of the late Ancel C. and Garnet E. (Davis) Wise, Sr. Ancel was also preceded in death by his son, Thomas L. Wise on September 2, 2002. He retired as a scarfer in the Strip Steel Department of the Weirton Steel Corporation after 37 years of service. He served his country in Company G 223rd Inf. Regt of the United States Army during the Korean War. He was awarded the C.I.B., Army OCC Medal (Japan) and the Korean Service Medal with 1 Bronze Camp Star and the United Nations Service Medal. Ancel was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church, Weirton Steel 25 year club, American Legion. He was also a member of the Salvation Army Men’s Club, where, because his son was an Army officer, he was the recipient of the Blue Star Medal. Ancel is survived by his wife, Dorthy E. Ritter Wise, whom he married on June 9, 1956; his sons, Ancel G. Wise of Steubenville, OH, and Captain Phillip A. Wise, of Moundsville, WV; his daughters, Mrs. Brett (Betty Jean) St Clair of Hagerstown, MD, and Patricia Monk of Palmyra, PA; four grandchildren and five step- grandchildren; his brother, Harley Wise and wife Betty of Weirton, WV; two nephews, Harley Wise, Jr. of Sheperdsville, KY and David L. Wise of Weirton; and niece Chris Boring also of Weirton. Visitation will be Sunday, 1-3 & 7-9 PM Sunday at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV. Funeral Services will be held 11 AM Monday, at the New Hope Baptist Church on Wylie Ridge Road. Pastor Leonard Peeler will preside. Entombment will be in Highland Hills Memorial Park, Follansbee, WV, with military services conducted by the American Legion Post 10 Honor Guard, VFW 2716 Firing Squad and the Tri State Marine Corp. Memorial contributions may be made to the New Hope Baptist Church.
