Steubenville, OH
Resided in:

Angelo Salvatore Mastroianni, 89, of Weirton, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 6, 2024, at the Weirton Medical Center.
Born on December 15, 1934, in Steubenville, Ohio, he was the youngest of seven children born to the late Fedele “Frank” and Teresa Alessio Mastroianni. He graduated from Big Red High School in 1954, where he played in the marching band. His love of Big Red football continued throughout his entire life.
He leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness, remembered with admiration by his devoted wife of 67 years, Joanne; his son, Michael (Paula) Mastroianni; his daughters, Theresa “Terry” Baker (Carl) and Kristen Schoenberg (Tom); and his beloved grandchildren, Christopher and Jennifer Mastroianni, Victoria Turner (Alex), Justin and Michael Baker, Benjamin, Lucas, and Bella Schoenberg.
In addition to his parents, Angelo was preceded in death by his siblings, Joseph, Carlo, and Guido Mastroianni, Frances Connors, Ralphina Ostrowski, and Jennie Sferella.
On August 31, 1957, Angelo married the love of his life, Joanne Mieczkowski. Together, they built a 67 year beautiful life centered around their three children and were later blessed with eight grandchildren. Angelo’s early years of marriage saw him working as a drapery installer before beginning a long and dedicated career at Weirton Steel, where he worked in the B.O.P. for 40 years, often working doubles, before retiring. In addition to working in the steel mill, Angelo often worked odd jobs, utilizing his skills as a talented carpenter and painter. He also served in the United States Navy Reserves.
His love for his family, especially his children and grandchildren, was undeniable. He was Ang, Angelo, Mr. Masty, and Uncle Ang to many. But most importantly he was “PaPa” and GrandPa to his eight grandchildren. Angelo enjoyed attending their athletic and school activities, dance and cheer recitals/competitions, and his community spirit extended to coaching Little League and helping build fields for the Weirton Baseball Association. He also loved giving back to his church, St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church, where he volunteered during the Lenten Fish Fries.
Angelo was a member of the Weirton Steel 25-Year Club, Moose Lodge 688 (where he served as a Governor), the Holy Name Society, St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church, and the Weirton Knights of Columbus.
Everyone loved Angelo, he had a great personality and was a great dancer. Angelo was also known for his unwavering kindness and willingness to help others. He never turned down a request. The word “no” was simply not a part of his vocabulary. He had a passion for good food, fine scotch, and a bottle of wine. Angelo will be missed by all.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Thursday at Saint Paul’s Roman Catholic Church in Weirton, officiated by Fr. Binu Sebastian. Angelo’s cremated remains will be interred at Saint Paul’s Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Saint Paul’s School, 140 Walnut Street, Weirton, WV 26062.

I am so sad…. Just for us though… for we’ve said goodbye to one very special man. For my Uncle I am extremely happy… no more pain, no more struggles or frustration, no more worry about the state of the world… he’s golfing , dancing and singing with Angels and watching Ohio State this fall with my Dad in the best seats! Farewell Uncle Ang … till we meet again someday! Give a hug to Great and Dad! We will miss you!
