Anthony Charles Macre
November 19, 1951 ~ October 3, 2021
Anthony Charles “Tony” Macre, a dedicated son, husband, father, and P-Pa died unexpectedly at his home on Sunday, October 3, 2021. He was 69.
Tony was born in Steubenville, OH on November 19, 1951, the only child born to Anthony S. and Betty Elliott Macre.
Nicknamed Pidge by his mom and Feesh by his friends, Tony graduated from Weir High School in 1969.
With injuries he sustained from a car accident in high school, Tony was not able to join the military, and like most guys his age went to work at Weirton Steel. Tony made a career working for the mill mostly in the payroll department and retiring from the transportation department.
On January 19, 1974, he married his high school sweetheart, Janet Kemp. The couple met at the Holiday Lanes when Tony was in the ninth grade and Janet in the seventh.
In 47 years of marriage, they were blessed with two children and three grandchildren.
Tony was a natural when it came to athletics; he was a great bowler and golfer. In bowling, he had a 299, missing the ten pin, and in golf, he frequently shot in the seventies and recorded a hole in one, and in running a 5k or 10k, he would always cross the finish line in the first place.
When Tony got involved he went all out and was dedicated to whatever he took on. He joined the Moose Lodge 688 and became the Governor, he cared for his mother and would check on her five times a day. He loved the Pirates and the Steelers and would watch or listen to every game win or lose on his transistor radio.
As he got older, the effects of the car accident took a toll on Tony and he spent a lot of time at his home. He loved watching the old TV shows from the past, betting on sports, and getting in a daily workout, but nothing compared to the times he cherished cooking his special sauce for dinner and spending time with his family on the back deck, playing cards and talking.
Most of all Tony will be remembered for his honesty, his willingness to tell the truth, and his dedication and love for his family.
Tony was preceded in death by his father.
He will be remembered with love by his mother, Betty, his wife, Janet, his son, Anthony “Tony” and Ashley Nicole; his daughter, Pamela and her boyfriend Tim; and his loving grandchildren, Andrew, Adrianna, and Ava.
Visitation will be Thursday 4 PM until 7 PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street Weirton, WV.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Friday at Saint Paul’s Roman Catholic Church, Weirton.
Interment will follow at Saint Paul’s Cemetery.
