
Athena Frangos
December 8, 1918 ~ April 19, 2009
Athena Frangos, 90, of Weirton died Sunday April 19, 2009, at the Weirton Medical Center.
Athena was born on December 8, 1918 at Monaca, PA, a daughter of the late Gus and Epistini Tsapis Angelo. She was also preceded in death by her husband Stavros Frangos on March 11, 1978; her two brothers, James and Stanley Angelo; her two sisters, Callie Kapiris, and Florence Frangias.
In her youth, Athena worked at her family's business in Weirton, the Cadiz Market. She was known to be good hearted, and was very proud of her involvement in the family business. In her adult life she stayed home and took care of her family.
Athena was a member of the All Saints Greek Orthodox Church.
She is survived by her son, Mike Frangos and his family; her two daughters, Stamatia and Paul Zelenka , Pamela and William Bainbridge all of Weirton; her sister Goldie Kakos of Whippany, N.J.; four grandchildren, Ashley Robinson, Maegan Bainbridge, Vanessa and Athena Zelenka; her great grandchild, Brynlee Robinson.
Visitation will be 4-8 PM Tuesday at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street Weirton, where Trisagion services will be held at 7:30 PM.
Additional visitation will be 10 AM Wednesday until time of funeral services at 11 AM at the All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, Weirton. The Reverend Father Frank Milanese will preside.
Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Weirton, WV.

I was so glad that I recently got to spend time with YiaYia when I missed the shower. She was always such a joy to be around and I really enjoyed our visit. Love, Shirley
Years ago when Chris was introduced to YiaYia and I explained she was Ashley’s “grandma”, YiaYia told him that she would be his YiaYia too. Since then, she’s been YiaYia to all of us and will forever be in our hearts. Rest in peace, YiaYia. We’ll miss you. Love, Mike, Kathy,Chris and Jansen
