Born on June 5, 1939, in Weirton, Bernice was the daughter of Vince and Rose Stark Soplinski.

Bernice nourished her faith at Sacred Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church. A devoted parishioner, a member of the Christian Mothers, and a Eucharistic Minister, Bernice would volunteer her time without hesitation, she was doing God’s work on Earth. A graduate of Weir High School, she was a member and founder of the Fun Seekers Senior Group and was always ready to help plan her class’s next reunion. In her spare time, she enjoyed watching American Idol and America’s Got Talent.

Bernice was an avid Steelers and Penguins fan, and during their respective seasons, you could hear her and Steve discussing the games. She also enjoyed tennis, traveling to the US Open with her son Joe to watch the matches
The devotion she had for her church was the life lesson she shared with her family. Her grandchildren were so special to her, she made herself available to them no matter how far away they might be. Her granddaughter Emily recalls Summers at, Camp Grandma! “She would take us to Kennywood, Sandcastle, and camping, her pierogies, and banana bread were the best, she was Grandma to everyone!”

Bernice enjoyed traveling throughout her life, she was able to take many family trips cultivating many fond memories. She spent many summers with her son Steve and his family in Haymarket, Va., traveling to one of her favorite spots, Smith Mountain Lake.

Bernice enjoyed life, she enjoyed her family, and she enjoyed everything she received from the relationship she had with them, she will be sadly missed.

In addition to Bernice’s parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Steve R. Balog Sr., whom she married on October 3, 1964, and who passed away on October 31, 2001.

  7. Candle Selection 4To the family of Bernice Balog
I want to express my sympathies on the loss of your loved one.
I knew and liked Bernice a lot. Many many years ago she was dating my uncle, and the entire family was hoping that they would marry (which of course never happened). She was ALWAYS still very friendly towards me.
You will be in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
Remember: Death leaves a heartache that no one can heal, but Love leaves memories that no one can steal.
