On Sunday, August 13, 2023, Bonnie L. Zagula, of Weirton, WV, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away at the age of 80.
Bonnie was born in Rochester, New York on March 22, 1943.
After graduating from high school, she enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. where she served at Quantico, Virginia until honorably discharged in 1963. After moving from Clearwater, Florida to Weirton, Bonnie married her husband Ed and created a happy and loving home for her family. Bonnie later attended The College of Steubenville and Wheeling Jesuit College, where she obtained a degree in Business and Finance, and went on to become a stockbroker and financial planner. After working for several brokerage houses, Bonnie created her own firm which evolved into a family business.
Bonnie was dedicated to her clients and treated them like family. She forged her own path in a male-dominated profession and was an inspiration to working mothers in the 80’s balancing family and career. She led an investment advisory group at Northern Community College and was consistently voted #1 financial advisor in the Weirton Daily Times Best of the Best. Bonnie was instrumental in bringing the Weirton Steel Corporation IPO (initial public offering) on June 15, 1989. Weirton Steel Corporation was one of the largest employee-owned companies and offered four million shares of common stock.
Known to her friends and the community for her kindness and generosity, Bonnie’s door was open to all, and she was always ready to lend an ear and a helping hand. To know her was to love her, and she will always be remembered by her grandson’s friends as Grandma Bonnie.
Bonnie’s compassion and advocacy for feral cats was unwavering, often to the consternation of her neighbors. She was a generous supporter of numerous animal shelters and charities.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her loving husband of 51 years, Edward Zagula, and will be remembered with great love by her sons Christopher (Beth) Ozazewski of Bel Air, MD, Matthew (Stephanie) Zagula, and David (Gina Travaglino) Zagula, her daughters Debbie Zagula and Pam Zagula, her grandson Charlie Zagula, her granddaughters Alex Ozazewski and Ava Ozazewski, her sisters Helen (Fred) Ford of Marion, NY, and Joyce (Paul Olson) Kelnosky of Hillsboro, WI, and her cats Tiger and Mama Cat.
The Zagula family would like to thank Rhonda Quattrocchi and the staff at Grace Cottage for their exemplary care and comfort over the past year. The compassion and kindness shown to our mother and to all of us has been overwhelming. The family is also grateful to Valley Hospice for their support at such a difficult time.
Private family services will be held at St. Paul’s Cemetery Chapel.

Debbie and family, so sorry for your loss.
A True Lady. Bonnie and Ed taught many people by example. They taught people how to be successful but humble, how to be hard working but family and community oriented, how to be influential but still a Gentleman and Lady and how to always be supportive of their friends. May Bonnie rest in peace.
Our deepest sympathy.

Pam and family – We are so sorry for your loss. Our prayers and thoughts are with you.
So sorry to hear of Bonnie’s passing. She was my financial person for so long. I missed not seeing her in the office in the last several years. I always enjoyed meeting with her and when my husband Dan first met her she instantly liked him and they traded e-mails often about politics. My sympathy to Matt, Pam and the entire Zagula family. May she rest in peace.
My sympathy to Debbie and all of her family.
Debbie,Pam andMatt I was so sorry to hear of your mom’s passing. My history with your parents goes all the way back to my teenage years. Time takes its toll but I never thought either one of your parents seemed old. They were both so bright and friendly throughout their entire life. I will miss your mom and so will a lot of other people.
Pam and family,
So sorry for your loss. ✝️🙏🏻
Debbie, Matt and family: I am so sorry for your loss. Matt, I so appreciate your kindness you and Pam showed me when I needed you but all I ever heard, for years! was if I needed anything all I need to do is see Bonnie Zagula; she is phenomenal to deal with. My mom loved her and had the utmost respect for your mom. I will keep you and your family in my prayers.
Matt, and Zagula Family

Dear Debbie, David, Pam, and Matt,
I hope you know how much Bonnie was loved and appreciated by the Asfour family. My memories go back to the first year that Bonnie became the “Queen” of Donell Street. She was the youngest mother who very quickly won the respect of not only the young children she chose to love and raise, but of my parents who cherished their life long friendship with her and Ed. I appreciated her frequent visits to see my dad while he battled ALS. She could make him smile like no other. And she often called to speak to my mom or check on her after my mom moved to Hedgesville with us. Bonnie genuinely cared about us and her optimism helped us through our darkest hours. We will never forget her. Thank you for sharing her with us.
