camden bennett
Camden J. Bennett, of Weirton died Monday, March 30, 2015 at the Weirton Medical Center. Born on March 31, 1929 in Reedy, W.Va., Camden was the son of the late Hosea Dayton and Carrie Burdette Bennett. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Alfreda Teresa Lopez Bennett on Jan. 16, 2011 and his sister, Patty Bumgarner. After a career of 44 years, Camden retired from Weirton Steel, where he worked in the 54 inch Electrical Department as a crane repairman. He served his country with the United States Army during the Korean War. An avid outdoorsman, Camden was a founding member of the Paris and Colliers Sportsman's Clubs and a proud member of the Mountaineer Athletic Club. He and his wife were season ticket holders for WVU Football for more than 30 years. He was also a member of the Christ United Methodist Church in Weirton, VFW 2716, and the American Legion Post 10. The love and devotion he had for his grandchildren was tremendous, as much of his time was spent with them throughout their childhood days. Fondly known as Papap, he loved to spoil them. For many years, Daytona Beach was his favorite vacation spot to be with his grandchildren. Every summer he would take them along with their Nana to the beach, where they would spend two weeks together. He also spoiled his grandchildren during football season, taking them to every home football game in addition to a few bowl game trips. Those days are still precious memories for his grandchildren, who vividly remember how much fun they had having that quality time. On the weekends, they were also excited, knowing that they would be going fishing or playing at the Sportsman Club with their Papap. Their childhoods were brightened by the love he and their Nana had for them. He will always be remembered for the love he had for his family, especially his grandchildren, and always being there to help his family. In addition to his grandchildren, he leaves behind a beloved pet, Duke. Duke was his companion and always by his side. He is survived by his three sons, Richard (Rachel) Bennett and Ronald Bennett all of Weirton, WV and Dr. Robert (Lisa) Bennett of McMechan, WV; a daughter, Renee and Jim Lemal of Weirton, WV; five grandchildren, Nicole and Joey Lemal, Katherine, Jesse, and Josh Bennett; a great grandchild on the way; a brother-in-law Camden Bumgarner; a niece, Debbie (Eddie) Mick; and a nephew Camden Bumgarner Jr. Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Greco Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street Weirton, WV where funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday. Rev. Timothy Conrad will preside. Interment will follow at Chestnut Ridge Cemetery, Florence, Pa., with Military graveside services conducted by the American Legion Honor Guard.

  2. To the Lemal family:

Please accept my prayers during this difficult time. If there has to be a bright side, it must be that he is back with his wife. 3. I worked with “Possum Head” for many years. He was a great guy. I’m sorry for your loss.

  4. To the ‘Bennett ‘ family, please accept this note in my absence. Many good memories of your dad, take comfort in knowing he is where he wanted to be, my thoughts and prayers to you all.

  5. Rob, my condolences. I have great memories of your father at football games from the Bluebonnet Bowl to all the home games especially when you had the house near the stadium. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

  6. Bob (Pee Wee),

Just read about your father and wanted you to know how sorrow I am for your loss. My memories go back to when we played baseball in Kings Creek and his love and excitement for the game, which carried through to or highschool years. You and your family are in our prayers.
