Carl Robert "Robbi" Thompson
August 20, 1968 ~ October 8, 2021
Carl Robert “Robbi” Thompson, Jr., of Weirton, passed away after a brief illness at The Weirton Medical Center on Friday, October 8, 2021; he was 53 years old.
Born on August 20, 1968, in Weirton, he was the son of the late Carl and Adeline Mckinley Thompson, Sr.
Carl was a member of the 1987 graduating class of Brooke High School, and he worked for many years for the US Steel Corporation as a pickler and operator.
Carl enjoyed volunteering his time to many causes. Although he was an active participant of the Weirton Salvation Army, he previously volunteered with Cove Company #2 in Weirton and the Franklin Community Volunteer Fire Department on Washington Pike. In addition, he was a proud member of the 1986 Brooke High School Football State Championship team.
One of his greatest joys was coaching his children in their respected sports, football, and baseball. He was an avid booster for Weir, Brooke High, and Madonna. In addition, he enjoyed mentoring and volunteering his time to his children’s teams, trying to help mold the athletes to be the best they could be.
In addition to his parents, Carl was preceded in death by his step-father David R. Mackey and brother Michael Mackey.
Remembering him fondly at home is his wife, Karen Gurrera Thompson, whom he married on December 9, 1995. His sons Matthew James Thompson of Morgantown (Maddie), Mason Lee Thompson, daughter Maggie Thompson both of Weirton, sister Terri (Johnny) Taylor of Tennessee, his Aunt Helen McKinley of Weirton and his Mother and Father law Mr. and Mrs. George and Stephanie Gurrera of Weirton.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 12, from 1-3 PM and 5-7 PM, where funeral services will be held at 7 PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton.

Carl was not only a friend but a brother firefighter! He will be missed by all that knew and loved him. I want to send his family most sincere condolences in the loss of Carl! To the Carl Thompson Family Vic and I are truly saddened to learn of Carl’s passing. Not only did Karen, and Carl’s children and the rest of the family loose a very important part of the family but the world lost a very good individual who was taken to soon.
