Carol Sue Wajda, 83, of Weirton, WV passed away on January 9, 2024.
Born on April 30, 1940, in Martins Ferry, OH, she was one of five children born to William and Lois Warwick Burkle. Carol’s life was marked by dedication, love, and a vibrant spirit that touched the hearts of all who knew her.
A graduate of Shadyside High School, Carol pursued her passion for caring and healing at the Ohio Valley School of Nursing, where she earned her RN degree. Her commitment to the nursing field spanned an impressive 45 years, leaving an indelible mark on the lives she touched through her compassionate and skillful nursing.
During her time in nursing school, fate brought Carol together with the love of her life, Edward John Wajda, on a blind date. Their love story blossomed, leading to a marriage on April 27, 1963. The couple made Weirton, WV, their home and were blessed with three sons, a daughter, and eight adoring grandchildren.
Known for her ornery and feisty spirit, Carol was a proud mother who cherished her children and embraced their friends as her own. She fiercely loved her family. In her younger days, she was the life of the party, often engaging in lively gatherings with neighbors that became legendary for the unforgettable, though unspoken, moments of joy and laughter. That is how she got her nickname “Crazy Carol”.
In her later years, Carol found solace and joy in creative pursuits, such as ceramics, painting, and card clubs. These activities allowed her to express her artistic side.
In addition to her parents, sadly, Carol was preceded in death by her husband Ed on October 23, 2012. Her granddaughter, Caitlin Wajda; and her sister, Rebecca Burkle.
Carol Sue Wajda leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a zest for life that will be fondly remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her; including her three sons, Jeff (Sheila), Scott (Dianna) and Steve (Kim) Wajda; her daughter, Stacy Amaismeier (Joe); her eight grandchildren, Olivia Owen (Josh), Will, Zach,Grant and Chase Wajda, and Alleigh, Leah and Ellah Amaismeier; her brother, Steve Burkle (Pat); and her sisters, Nancy Crump (Jeff) and Kathy Thuerbach (Jon).
As we bid farewell to a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, let us celebrate the beautiful tapestry of memories she wove throughout her remarkable journey. Friends and family will gather on Saturday, February 3, 2024 from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM. A celebration of Carol’s life will be held at 4:00 PM.

Our deepest sympathy on the loss of your mom. We had such good times at the parties you mentioned held by the Weirton Women’s Club we belonged to. She worked hard on working to make Weirton a great community to raise a family.

I am just now learning of Carol’s passing. Such a full life she had. We worked together for several years at Ohio Valley Hospital/ Trinity East and I got to know her, not only as a helpful coworker, but as a friend as well. Her sense of humor was the best. My condolences to her family whom she loved with all her heart.
