Charles Edward Kittle, 91, of Weirton, WV, a loving husband, and father, passed away on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, with his wife and daughter at his side.
Born in Weirton, WV on January 15, 1932, he was the son of Charles Kittle and Margaret Kochey Kittle Denny. Charles lived a fulfilling life, leaving behind a legacy of love to his wife and daughter.
After graduating from Burgettstown High School in 1950, Charles enlisted in the US Navy and served his country with honor for four years during the Korean War. After returning from Korea, Charles’s path intersected with destiny, as he met the love of his life, Thelma Lamalfa, at a Bobby Vinton Dance at the ISU Hall. Ironically, they both were tired and initially reluctant to attend the dance, their meeting marked the beginning of a beautiful journey together.
On June 15, 1957, Charles and Thelma exchanged vows at Saint Paul’s Church in Weirton, sealing their love and commitment in the eyes of God and their community. Their marriage was blessed with the arrival of their beloved daughter, Margaret Ann Kittle.
A dedicated and hardworking individual, Charles devoted 40 years of his life to Weirton Steel. Throughout his career, he undertook various responsibilities, including the dismantling of a plant in Detroit and serving as the mechanical foreman of the Sinter Plant.
Upon retirement, Charles embarked on a new chapter in his life, spending 23 glorious winters in the picturesque city of Naples, Florida. During his time there, he became a member of the Stonebridge Country Club.
However, it was Charles’ love for water sports that truly defined his leisure activities. Whether it was racing, riding jet skis, or boating with friends on the Ohio River, he found solace and joy in the exhilarating world of water.
Beyond his affinity for outdoor pursuits, Charles found enjoyment in bowling. He was once an active participant in the Weirton Steel League, the Saint Joseph league, and the PREU league.
Among Charles’ many interests, dancing held a special place in his heart. Charles was also a gracious host, delighting in entertaining family and friends on his deck during warm summer evenings. His home became a gathering place, where laughter, good food, and cherished memories were shared. Thanksgiving dinners were shared at his home, embracing in the spirit of gratitude.
Charles was a member of Saint Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church in Weirton, where his faith played a central role in his life. He was also involved in various organizations that mirrored his dedication and community spirit. Charles served as the treasurer of the Weirton Marina Boat Club for an impressive 28 years and was honored as Elk of the Year at the former Elks Lodge 1801. He was a member of the American Legion Post 10, ISDA Weirtonian Lodge 183, and the Management Club and 25-year club of Weirton Steel. Charles was also a former member of the Pleasant Valley Country Club.
Most of all, Charles will be remembered for his unwavering devotion to his wife Thelma and their daughter Margaret Ann. His love and dedication to his family were the pillars of his life.
Sadly, Charles was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother and sister-in-law, Jay and Agnes Watt.
He will be remembered with love an admiration by his loving wife, Thelma; his beloved daughter, Dr. Margaret Ann Kittle of Naples, FL; his brother and sisters in law, John and Josie Antlake of Wheeling, WV and Marie Rostic of Rogersville, MO; and his great nieces and nephews, Mary Ann (Jerry) Basconi of the Woodlands, TX, William (Diane) Watt of Bluffton, SC; and Gary Paul Rostic of Rogersville, Mo; and many great nieces and nephews
