Chester J. Soplinski, Sr.
July 19, 1912 ~ September 6, 2003
Chester J. Soplinski, Sr., 91, of Weirton passed away, Saturday September 6, 2003, at the Weirton Geriatric Center.
He was born on July 19, 1912, in Pittsburgh, PA, the son of the late Julius and Josephine (Malinowski) Soplinski. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Julia Binkiewicz Soplinski; his brothers, Vincent and Julius; his sisters, Mary Beraducci, and Casimera (Kitty) Vagnoni.
Chester was a member of the Sacred Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church,in Weirton. He retired from National Steel, with over 46 years of service, where he worked as a Rigger Foreman, in the Construction Department. He served his country during WW II, with the 57th Fighting Seabeeās of the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the Weirton Steel 25 Year Club, and the VFW Post 2716.
He is survived by twin sons, Charles (Chuck) Soplinski, and his wife Judy, Chester J. Soplinki, Jr., and his wife Kathy; a daughter, Bernadette (Bernie) Casto all of Weirton. He has five grandchildren, Thomas and Theodore Soplinski, Sharon Marsella, Suzanne Stabile, and Christa Grillo. He also has three special great grandchildren, Dominic and Gabriella Soplinski, and Austin Grillo. He has a brother, John, and his wife Charlene of Weirton; several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 7-9 PM Sunday, and 2-4 & 7-9 PM Monday, at the Greco Hertnick Funeral Home, Weirton.
Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated 10 AM Tuesday, at the Sacred Heart of Mary Church.
Interment will follow, at the Saint Paul Cemetery, Weirton. Military graveside services will be conducted by the American Legion Post 10 Honor Guard, the VFW 2716 Firing Squad, and the Tri State Marine Corp.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Sacred Heart of Mary Building Fund.
