Captain Bradly Alan Nicka, 29, of Arizona, formerly of Burgettstown, PA passed away Saturday, September 14, 2013 in The University of Arizona Medical Center in Tucson, Arizona. He was born in Painesville, OH on May 8, 1984, a son of Peter R. and Julie Cornell Nicka of Burgettstown. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Ernest Nicka, Jr. and maternal grandmother June Cornell. After his 2002 graduation from Madonna High School, Bradly went on to graduate from West Point in 2006 with his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and received his MBA from Webster University in 2012. He was a member of the 160th Division of the Special Operations Aviation and just finished his second tour in Afghanistan. A Bronze Star recipient, Captain Nicka served as an Aviator in the United States Army where he received Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Valorous Unit Award, Meritorious Unit Citation, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, NATO Medal, Army Aviator Badge, Combat Action Badge and the Army Parachutist Badge. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife Anna Velto Nicka of Arizona, whom he married in 2007; daughter Addison Leigh Nicka; sisters Caitlin Marie Nicka of Hershey, PA and Jennifer Elizabeth Nicka of Ft. Collins, CO; paternal grandmother Maureen Nicka of Geneva, OH and maternal grandfather Lee Cornell of Madison, OH. Friends will be received Friday 2-4 and 6-8pm at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10am Saturday at St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, 229 California Ave. Weirton with The Reverend Father Manuel Gelido officiating. The Ft. Knox Military Honor Guard will conduct full Military Honors at the church immediately following the funeral mass. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or the Wounded Warrior Project, P. O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.
